Tinubu Sacks Finance, Housing Ministers

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has relieved the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, of his appointment as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle.

The President also elevated Taiwo Oyedele from Minister of State to substantive Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Similarly, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has been relieved of his position. The President named Muttaqha Rabe Darma as ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the ministry.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued Tuesday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, who said the President approved the changes to strengthen governance and improve service delivery.

According to the statement, Edun has been directed to hand over to Oyedele, while Dangiwa is to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending confirmation of his successor.

“All handing over processes are to be completed on or before Thursday, April 23, 2026,” the statement added.

Akume explained that the reshuffle is aimed at enhancing coordination and advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that the President acted within his constitutional powers.

President Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reinvigorate governance would continue.
