Tinubu Approves $1 Billion For Reconstruction of Calabar, Tin Can, 3 Other Ports

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced plans to reconstruct five major ports in Nigeria, including Apapa, Tincan Island, Calabar, Warri, and Port Harcourt.

 The Managing Director of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has approved a $1 billion investment for the project, which is expected to be completed within 48 months.

Dantsoho stated that rehabilitation works are expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026, following extensive engineering, environmental, and design studies. 

He revealed that the project is part of the federal government's plan to modernize Nigeria's seaport infrastructure, attract foreign investment, and reposition the maritime sector for competitiveness in the global logistics chain.

Dantsoho emphasized that the Nigerian economy is set for massive investment due to Tinubu's economic reforms adding that the NPA is collaborating with other port stakeholders to attract investors. 

He highlighted the importance of technology and automation in port management, stating that Nigeria must invest heavily in these areas to remain competitive.
