Teen Teacher Bags Life Imprisonment for Defiling Nine Year Old Pupil in Abuja
A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has sentenced a 19 year old teacher, Abdullahi Abbass, to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine year old male pupil in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
Justice Osho Adebiyi delivered the verdict on 29 October 2025 after finding Abbass guilty on a two count charge of rape and sexual abuse. The case was prosecuted under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act of 2015.
According to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Abbass was the victim’s class teacher at a well known school in Kwali. The incident occurred on 19 March 2025 shortly after school hours.
The teacher was said to have sent another pupil to invite the victim from his home. He then lured the boy to the street where he lived and assaulted him. Despite being threatened, the young survivor reported the incident to his mother, which led to the suspect’s arrest by the Police and the subsequent transfer of the case to NAPTIP.
NAPTIP Applauds Court Ruling
The Director General of NAPTIP, Binta Bello, commended the judgment as a major victory in the national fight against sexual violence and child abuse.
In a statement issued by the agency’s National Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, Bello described the ruling as a significant milestone that reflects the commitment of law enforcement and the judiciary to ensure justice for minors.
She noted that the convict’s name will be entered into the Sex Offenders Register to serve as a deterrent to other potential offenders.
Bello commended the swift investigation, the cooperation of the Nigeria Police, and the effective coordination among stakeholders that ensured timely prosecution.
She reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to intensify efforts against rape, domestic violence, and all forms of sexual abuse across the country.
