By Inemesit Friday

The Kebbi State Police Command says it has launched a coordinated operation to rescue the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Samaila Bagudo, who was abducted by suspected bandits on Friday night.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, noting that armed men stormed Bagudo town and seized the lawmaker at gunpoint shortly after he returned from the mosque.

Abubakar disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, has mobilised a joint search and rescue team made up of Police operatives, troops of the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups to track down the kidnappers and ensure the legislator’s safe return.

“In response to this unfortunate development, a strong rescue team has been deployed and is currently combing bushes and forest routes to rescue him unhurt,” Abubakar said.

He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that the Police Command is fully on top of the situation and will not relent until the Deputy Speaker regains freedom.

The Kebbi State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens across the state.
