Supreme Court Nullifies Ibadan PDP Convention, Dismisses Turaki-Led Appeal

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by the Taminu Turaki-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effectively nullifying the party's national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16 last year.

The apex court held that the convention was held in defiance of an existing Federal High Court judgment delivered by Justice James Omotosho, describing the move as an abuse of court process.

 *Key Points*

•The Turaki-led group went to another court of coordinate jurisdiction instead of appealing.

•The court said any litigant who abuses court process does so at their own peril.

•The majority judgment dismissed the appeal for lack of merit.

The Ibadan convention was held despite a subsisting court order.

•The ruling further deepens the leadership crisis within the PDP.

•The Supreme Court's decision is a setback for the Turaki faction.
