NASS MEMBERS: ARE YOU STILL SINGING ON YOUR MANDATE WE SHALL STAND?

“He who laughs last, laughs best” says, a popular adage. Times there were, when our representatives at the National Assembly mocked us. When you send someone to represent you somewhere yet the person goes there and represents his interests instead of yours, if that isn’t mockery, what else would you call that?

Our Senators and Members of House of Representatives, who did you consult before the speedy passage of the bill for a change of the National Anthem from what it were to what it is now? It was a mere song, you may say, so our opinions didn’t matter. Your return ticket did.

Let me ask another innocent question: Who did you sit with to agree before approving the several loan requests from the president? Even when Nigerians have been wailing over the towering debt status of this country, your mind was fixated on a return ticket rather than speak out to save the soul of your nation. We were told that when subsidy was removed from fuel, we would have enough for infrastructures and to save for rainy days yet we have borrowed more money at Post fuel-subsidy regime that ever yet you our representatives did not bother.

Till now, Nigerians are complaining about unending increase in fuel prices, transportation fares, as well as high costs of living. While poor Nigerians languish in poverty and pain, you keep enjoying the prayers sent to your mails from our collective wealth.

How about the injustice you supported? You raised your voices loud and concurred to the president’s action of suspending an elected Governor of a state. You see, what goes around, comes around. I remember the long told adage that says: “The evil that men do, live after them.” This one is living within you and before your eyes.

Now, while you remain silent, nervous and uncertain about the unknown future, the common masses are laughing hard. I hear some of your aides crying that the people should be allowed to decide who represents them.

Baba, your Governor will first decide as far as the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets are concerned. At what point did you realise that the people matter? If the people truly mattered, did you return home to consult their opinions before you passed the electoral bill into law? You see, when you sell your brother out, even your buyer won’t trust you anymore.

There were some of you who were elected on the platform of another party but you quickly defected to APC because you envisaged a return ticket. Don’t you guys know that there are people who own this party called APC? In few days time, we shall know who returns and who goes to the red and green chambers. Whoever is picked or dropped, heaven will not fall.

For our lawyers and judges in our respective courts, karma knows everyone’s address. We shall all drink from this cup of Karma. It shall be enough for us. Only time decides...

Till then, are we still singing: On your mandate, we shall stand?
