Super Falcons Bow Out Of WAFCON 2026 After 1-0 Loss to Cameroon

Cameroon pulled off a major upset on Sunday defeating defending champions Nigeria 1-0 in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals to reach the semi-finals, qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Indomitable Lionesses scored early through Nyadjo in the 19th minute at Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco and held on to knock out the 10-time WAFCON winners.

The result ends Nigeria’s bid for a record-extending 11th WAFCON title, while Cameroon advance to face hosts Morocco in the semi-finals on August 12 in Rabat.

The quarter-finals double as World Cup qualifiers. With the win, Cameroon join Algeria and Morocco as Africa’s first teams to book direct tickets to the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Nigeria, who have been to every Women’s World Cup since 1991, will now drop into the play-off matches.

They will be playing South Africa on 13 August in Casablanca for a chance at the inter-confederation playoffs.
