South East Governors Can't Deliver Tinubu, They 'll Struggle To Get 25%, Says Ogun
Former federal lawmaker, Sergius Ogun, has stated that no South East governor would be able to deliver his state to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Rather, Ogun stated unequivocally that the ruling party figures in the region would find it difficult to secure even 25 per cent of the total votes cast.
Speaking on an interview at the weekend where he spoke about the political outlook ahead of the next general election, the lawmaker said the political mood in the Southeast remains strongly in favour of the opposition, particularly Peter Obi.
Ogun claimed that Obi would comfortably win the Southeast and would also retain strong support across the South-South. He said, No southeast governor can deliver his state for Tinubu, they will struggle to get 25 percent.
He went further to argue that Obi's influence would extend beyond the southern states. According to him, Obi would win several key states in the North Central and North West. He said the ruling establishment does not have genuine grassroots popularity and relies heavily on state structures to maintain control.
The former lawmaker also dismissed suggestions that divisions within the opposition and previous political realignments would weaken Obi's support base. He maintained that those factors would not have a major impact on the movement going into the 2027 elections.
On the issue of electoral integrity, Ogun stressed the need for electronic transmission of results directly from polling units. He warned against any attempt to undermine the electoral process or manipulate results during collation. He said voters are more aware now and are determined to protect their votes from administrative interference.
Ogun also spoke in defence of Peter Obi's record as governor of Anambra State. He described controversies surrounding legacy debts as politically motivated distractions created by opponents. He argued that administrative omissions and long term multilateral loans should not be used to question Obi's financial transparency while in office, adding that such issues do not take away from his integrity.
