Federal lawmaker, representing Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Abang, has disclosed that the federal government has concluded arrangements to intervene in the 115km Ikom-Obudu Federal Highway.

Abang, stated that the road has been captured in the 2026 budget and advised youths to desist from staging protests and blocking the road.

He further disclosed this in Calabar, during a town hall meeting and constituency briefing for his constituents resident in Calabar.

Reacting following peaceful protests by youths who barricaded road obstructing vehicular movements and business activities along the Ikom-Obudu federal highway, he urged relevant authorities to repair the dilapidated Ikom-Obudu road.

Addressing the concerns of the youths, Hon. Abang said: "As much as we sympathize with the youths, the procurement process for road construction is a bit long.

"The state governor Senator Bassey Otu alongside national assembly members have made representation to the federal government and as we speak, adequate provision has been made for the road in the 2026 budget.

"We, as representatives also met with the works minister and we are sure with this and the efforts of the governor the road has been captured", he said.

He assured the youths that construction will commence on the road and cautioned them against "punishing ourselves by blocking the road", he said.

Abang listed the number of interventions in the Constituency to include the Kakwagon/Oki/Borun/Njua Road, the Katchuan/Bitia/Kakwagon/Nkayang/Kakubok roads with foundational enhancement to forge links with harvest zones.

"I have sponsored a bill to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Boki as the area has no tertiary hospital with the nearest facility being four hours away.

"I am working to attract a constituency project to all the wards in the federal constituency," he stated.
