POWER: : Nigerian Govt secures N7.4bn To Build 7mw mini-grid in Ebonyi Communities

The Nigerian government has achieved a milestone as an indigenous energy firm secured its N7.4 billion financing to build 7 megawatts of electricity in underserved communities in Ebonyi State, Southeast Nigeria.

The benefiting communities include Afikpo, Okposi, Mebiokpa, and Ohaozara within the Ohaozara local government area, Ebunwana in Edda Local Government Area and Iboko in Izzi Local government area.

According to a recent statement by the Rural Electrification Agency, the financing is part of the Memorandum of Understanding on N100 billion with a Nigerian bank to deploy renewable energy infrastructure across eight key sites in Ebonyi State.

The government said the move, which falls under its Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES), is aimed at closing the country’s energy gap.

The mini-grid deployment will reach across the communities of Okposi, Mebiokpa, and Ohaozara within the Ohaozara Local Government Area, extending to Ebunwana in Edda Local Government Area.

Additionally, the project will cover Unwana and Afikpo in Afikpo North, as well as Iboko in the Izzi Local Government Area.

Reacting to the speed of the deployment, the Managing Director of the REA, Abba Aliyu, emphasized that this milestone is evidence that the agency is actively working on partnerships that deliver real and tangible results to Nigerians.

According to Aliyu, this specific project stands as a prime example of how strategic alignment can yield immediate benefits for the public.
