Outgoing Methodist Archbishop Lauds Obong of Calabar for Support

The Methodist Archdiocese of Calabar has commended the Obong of Calabar and Grand Patriarch of the Efik Kingdom, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, for his support for the church and Christian faith in Cross River State.

The outgoing Archbishop, Most Rev. Amb. Chimezuo Nwankpa, gave the commendation during an appreciation visit to the monarch at his country home in Adiabo, Calabar.

Nwankpa said the visit was to thank the Obong and his cabinet for their cooperation and hospitality during his five year tenure. He also formally informed the monarch of his transfer to Port Harcourt.

The Lay President of Calabar Diocese, Sir Dr. Edet J. Attih, attributed the church’s growth to Nwankpa’s dedication.

Attih said the Archbishop created an atmosphere conducive to development within the church, adding, “When there is peace, there is progress; when there is progress, there is development.”

Responding, the Obong commended Nwankpa for promoting peace in the Methodist Church, saying he had not witnessed the rancour that characterised the church before his arrival. He described him as a man of peace and prayed that his legacy of brotherliness would endure.

The monarch prayed for God’s guidance in Nwankpa’s new assignment and congratulated him on his service to the church and society during his tenure in Calabar and wider society. He also commended Attih, Chief Executive Officer of Peace Medical Centre, Calabar, for his professionalism.

Other members of the delegation included Sir Chief Engr. Ekpenyong Ekpenyong, Very Rev. Emmanuel Kanu, Very Rev. Ejikeme Udorie, Rev. Okechukwu Nwafor, Rev. Samuel Egbo and Chief Leo Okon.
