Otu Restores 3,000 LG Workers to Payroll, Pledges to Address Outstanding Labour Issues

Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu, has approved the immediate restoration of about 3,000 local government workers who were delisted from the state payroll.

‎

‎The approval was given during a direct engagement between the government and organized labour, where contentious issues affecting workers' welfare were tabled and discussed.

‎

‎Governor Otu, who expressed optimism about the state's fiscal future, said ongoing reforms to boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and prudent management of existing liabilities would create more fiscal space for the government to meet its obligations to workers.

‎

‎He assured labour leaders that concerns over outstanding promotions, salary harmonisation and the welfare of low-income workers and pensioners would not be ignored, but would be reviewed after submission of relevant documents.

‎

‎"For the other issues, I will need at least some briefs," the Governor told the labour representatives, directing them to submit official documentation for government's review.

‎

‎Speaking on his administration's economic blueprint, Otu said he was shifting Cross River away from dependence on limited income sources to an economy driven by infrastructure, investment, enterprise and human capital.

‎

‎He called on labour and all stakeholders to join in rebuilding the state to enviable heights.
