Jarigbe, C’River Govt Donate Over N220m for New Cathedral as Bishop Akpan Marks 40 Years of Priesthood

The 40th Priesthood Anniversary of the Catholic Bishop of Ogoja Diocese, Most Rev. Donatus Edet Akpan, witnessed major financial support for the church as Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe and the Cross River State Government jointly donated over N220 million toward the construction of a new cathedral in Ogoja.

Senator Jarigbe, who represents Cross River North Senatorial District, announced a donation of N100 million on the spot during the event held at St. Benedict’s Cathedral, Ogoja.

The state government, represented by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, also donated N120 million on behalf of Governor Bassey Otu.

Jarigbe, who chaired the occasion and represented the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, praised Bishop Akpan for his exemplary leadership, commitment to evangelism, and role in promoting peace and development across the Diocese.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Hon. Victor Abang, member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, Hon. Peter Akpanke, member representing Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency, Prof. Zana Akpagu, Dr. Dornclaimz Enamhe, and other prominent Cross Riverians.

In his remarks, Bishop Akpan expressed deep gratitude to Senator Jarigbe, the state government, and all supporters for their generosity and encouragement. He said the donations would greatly aid the realization of the new cathedral project and reaffirmed his commitment to serving God and humanity with renewed zeal.
