Orok Duke Marks Children’s Day with Kids and Young Athletes in Calabar

The Cross River representative on the Niger Delta Development Commission board, Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, PhD, marked the 2026 Children’s Day with outreach events for children in Wards 4 and 5 of Calabar South LGA.

Hundreds of children and their mothers gathered at Amayo Duke School, Egerton, for the celebration. Duke distributed cash gifts, foodstuffs, and other packages, saying the gesture was meant to support grassroots families and reinforce the rights of the Nigerian child.

Speaking at the event, he reiterated his commitment to community development, youth empowerment, and child welfare.

“Investing in the education and moral upbringing of children from grassroots communities is the surest way to secure a peaceful and prosperous future for the state,” Duke said.

He also met privately with parents of children with special needs to provide financial assistance for healthcare and educational support.

The celebration continued at U.J. Esuene Stadium, where Duke engaged with teenage table tennis players and swimmers. He donated a bag of rice to the swimmers and gave ₦5,000 to each athlete present.

Chairman of the Cross River State Sports Commission, Hon. Lawrence Etta, attended the stadium event.
