OPINION: IMPEACHMENT SAGA ON THE APC STATE CHAIRMAN : SIGN OF BUMPY ROAD AHEAD FOR THE PARTY

By Ugoji Nwabueze

The enviable, united, cohesive, Indivisible and monolithic purpose driven ruling party in the state: All Progressives Congress (APC) is experiencing the tragedy painted by chinua Achebe in his African epic literature " THINGS FALL APART". The portrayals in the literature was about life in Umuofia, which had become chaotic, brutish and unpredictable. It was that of a jungle where the rule of law , equity and justice walked on their heads

"The Falcon cannot hear the falconer, the widening gyre, the centre cannot hold and things fall apart". I hope that members of the top echelon of the party sees the looming wild Catrina wind blowing within the parry. Last year, the wind almost swept away the chairman of the party, Barr Alphonsus Eba, known humorously as OKADIGBO.

At the well attended STATE STAKE HOLDERS MEETING of the party, held last year or so in Calabar, most eminent elders, leaders and stake holders saw the wild wind coming to disorganised the party and called for true peace and cessation on all contending issues that almost tore the party into shreds.

Apologies were canvassed and tendered on behalf of all the gladiators and warlords who hitherto danced naked in public political space with the bizarre impeachment trajectory of the state Chairman. They said his leadership of the party had become toxic and unproductive and should be kept aside consequently.

Expectedly, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet

provided his large shoulders for the chairman to lean on in such a moment of trial and his fatherly intervention brought the matter to a close. Almost a year later, the wild wind has come back in full force with the determination to sweep away the State Party CHAIRMAN .

Recently, all the party Local Government Chairmen, Secretaries and Vice Chairmen moved a motion of Vote of no confidence on him. Similarly, the 196 Ward Chairmen of the APC in the State also moved a vote of no confidence for his IMPEACHMENT. It's been bumper to bumper.

Then come, thursday the 4th of December, 2025, the State Executive Committee numbering 30 out of 32 of its members voted for his IMPEACHMENT .

The Welfare Secretary of the party Mr Okara Ekawu relying on Section 17 Sub Section 6 of the party's constitution moved a motion for the appointment of an Acting CHAIRMAN. The motion was supported by the Treasurer Dr Mathew Egom

That was how the curtain was drawn on the State Chairman of the party with a well orchestrated success story of producing an APC Governor, 2 Senators, 5 Members of the House of Representatives and 20 members of the House of Assembly. With defectors the number had increased.

Chinua Achebe said , no elder should sit at home and watch the goat deliver with the rope on its neck. This Essay persuades the State Stake Holders and eminent Leaders not to sit and watch silently, the unfolding drama that has all the nuances that could create mayhem and instability on the peace architecture of the party.

My legitimate concern is on the timing of the impeachment SAGA. No community preparing for war will first behead its leader. It is an invitation to anarchy , invasion and defeat. 2027 election needs a rugged man that will drive the train through the muddy political terrain. It will not be for political neophytes or baby Leaders. It will require the resilience of the man who knows the products for 2027 and the marketing strategies to be deployed.

The embattled State CHAIRMAN has already reacted to the unfolding drama by saying that " my purported IMPEACHMENT is a joke taking too far..." The picture above depicts two warring gladiators standing on a drawn battle line and the party faithfuls are cheering as they engage in a battle to finish in a house we have toiled day and night to build.
