NYSC Suspends Deployment To Cross River Over Deplorable Camp Facilities

By Missang AKPET

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has suspended the deployment of corps members to Cross River State for the upcoming orientation course over the poor state of its orientation camp.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. O.O. Nafiu, who visited the Permanent Orientation Camp in Obubra on Saturday, October 10 2026, reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the deplorable condition of facilities at the camp.

Following the inspection, the DG directed the suspension of deployment to the state for the 2026 Batch C Stream II Orientation Course scheduled to commence on 4th November 2026.

Sources at the camp revealed that most of the hostels, toilets, kitchen and parade ground are in a state of disrepair, making the environment unconducive for the orientation exercise.

Reacting to the situation, the state commissioner for information Pastor Ekpenyong Cobham revealed that arising from the report, the state government has immediately ordered contractors on site to undertake repairs and renovation of the permanent Orientation camp in Obubra.

The decision by the NYSC is expected to affect thousands of prospective corps members who were to be posted to the state, as they will now be redeployed to other states for their orientation course.
