NUPENG Calls Off Strike as Dangote Group Yields to NUPENG Demand

By Missang AKPET

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called off its one day old strike which began on Tuesday September 9 2025.

The strike was called off after a truce initiated by The Department of State Services (DSS) between the Federal Government, oil industry stakeholders, and organized labor on Tuesday evening.

Recalled that (NUPENG) embarked on a strike as a result of a dispute with the Dangote Refinery over unionization rights for its workers.

In the truce, NUPENG and Dangote Group reached an agreement allowing Dangote workers to unionize, addressing the union's core demand.

The unionization process is set to commence immediately and should be completed within two weeks (September 9-22, 2025).

The agreement had the following keypoints

1. Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals will allow employees to join NUPENG.

2. No worker or employee will be victimized due to the strike notice.

The suspension of the one day strike brings relief to millions of Nigerians who were affected by fuel shortages as fuel loading and distribution have resumed nationwide.
