NUJ Mourns Veteran Journalist Anietie Akpan

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Cross River State Council, has announced the death of veteran journalist, Mr. Anietie Akpan, who passed away on the night of Sunday, August 2, 2026.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the council, Comrade Archibong Bassey, the union described Akpan as a distinguished journalist whose career spanned more than three decades, marked by dedication, integrity and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

The NUJ said the late journalist made remarkable contributions to the growth of the profession and noted that his passing represents a monumental loss to the union, the media industry and Cross River State.

"The Chairman, Executive Council and the entire membership of the NUJ Cross River State Council mourn this painful loss and extend their heartfelt condolences to the Akpan family. We pray that Almighty God grants them the strength, comfort and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss," the statement read.

The union also appealed for privacy for the bereaved family as they make preparations for the funeral, adding that burial arrangements would be announced in due course.

Mr. Akpan is remembered for his professionalism, dedication to journalism and invaluable service to the media profession throughout his distinguished career. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
