The National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN), Cross River chapter, has promised to prioritise the actualisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The pioneer Speaker of the state chapter of the association, Mr Bassey Nton, who made the declaration in his acceptance speech after his emergence in Calabar, said the need to prioritise the SDGs across all the wards level in the state is to ensure that the youths benefits maximally from the goals which are meant to end poverty and ensure prosperity among others.

According to Nton while we hope to prioritise the implementation of the SDGs goals, we will also work to ensure that the greater number of youths across the state are self employed through digital skills.

The election followed a state convention which produced 18 ambassadors representing the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

The convention which also produced the  ward assembly which comprises representatives from all the 196 wards of the state, saw the emergence of Angela Effefiom as the Deputy Speaker.

Earlier, chairman of the electoral committee, Eugene Ojua, said the state chapter of the assembly was established in 2019.

He stresses that the vision of the assembly is to "unlock the full potential of our youth and create a Nigeria where every young person can thrive.

"We also hope to provide a platform for the expression of the utmost desires of the Nigerian youth."
