Who Will Save Eket Senatorial District From Brink Of Poor Representation in 2027, Group Asks
By Imoh Essien (Uyo)
A socio-political organisation in the state, Patriotic Youth Development Forum, has raised a question that is lingering in the minds of many people, most especially the people of Eket Senatorial District, as regards the 'messiah' that can save the people from poor representation since the advent of democracy in the country in 1999.
The group disclosed this last weekend through their National President, Mr. Imoh Akpan Essien, while interacting with his members in Uyo, the state capital.
Essien who's an indigene of Onna Local Government Area, in Eket senatorial district, holds his first degree and PGD in Political Science and Mass Communication respectively.
He opined that the district has never had it good with the quality of representatives they had produced to represent them in Nigeria's apex legislative arm of government, the senate, since 1999, especially against the background of the wonder performances with that the other two senatorial district of the state.
The President noted that the group was set to embark on what he calls "Operation Show Your Score Card," a social mantra to sensitize the electorates to look well before the next electioncircle.
He maintained that the days of "beer parlour's political campaign" are gone.
" a situation where people will be emerging on the platter of gold to represent the people will not happen again.
"I can tell you the days of beer parlour's political campaign are over; Eket senatorial district people can never be cheapened again," he said.
He said when taking a cursory look at comparative analysis of the performances of the present crop of senators sent to the Senate by the people in the past seventeen months, that it was obvious to note that the district performed below average.
He posited that the core essence of democracy and representative government was for the people and for the happiness of the poor masses.
He concluded by urging elected and political appointees not to see their positions as settlement or conduit pipe for self-enrichment.
