TCTI: Nigeria’s Bastion Of Digital Literacy Standards For Teachers - Prof Adedoja

The Teachers Continuous Training Institute, TCTI, Biase, Cross River State, has been described as a bastion of digital literacy standards and training for Nigerian teachers.
The institute's Director General, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, made the assertion, Thursday September 14, 2023, at the closing ceremony of a 3-day intensive training workshop on ‘The Usage of Digital Facilities for Teaching and Learning for Basic Education Teachers in Cross River State,’ attended by 45 teachers across the three senatorial districts of the State.
The Director General noted that the opportunity provided by the practical training would improve participants' digital skills and knowledge needed for their overall performance in the classrooms, especially in this 'digital age’.
He further announced that the TCTI has the best digital facilities in Nigeria, going by the numbers and world class specification of the facilities at the institute, notably, the 37 classrooms, two information and communication technology (ICT) centres, four Science Laboratories, Ben Ayade 500 sitting capacity amphitheatre, and the Prof. Ivara Esu 1000 sitting capacity Multipurpose hall, among others.
“The trainee guest rooms in the institute can accommodate 200 participants at a time for any training programme. The Digital Infrastructure we have in the Institute are the best set in any educational institution in Nigeria," the DG emphasised.
Prof, Adedoja, a former minister of Sports and Special Duties, thanked the State Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu for approving the workshop, and expressed the institute’s readiness to continue efficient delivery of well-packaged retraining programmes for short and long term periods, ranging from three to six months for various categories of teachers in the State and beyond.
In their separate responses, Mr Igiri Emmanuel Inah, Mr Ebai Steven Ndeh and Mrs Arikpo-Eyong Florence, representing participants from three senatorial zones of the State, thanked the Institute for making the 3-day Intensive ICT Training programme very practical. They said the training impacted tremendously and improved their knowledge of digital literacy, which would have a rippling effect on the day-to-day discharge of their duties.
Highlight of the workshop was the presentation of certificates to the participants by the Deputy Director General of the institute, Mrs. Mary Omaji.
