Hon. Ayim Calls For Urgent Gov't Intervention On Roads

The member representing Ogoja state constituency in the Cross River state Assembly, Hon Rita Ayim has called on the Federal and State governments to immediately intervene in the failed portion of the highway between Ndok and Moniaya Junction and internal roads in Igoli town, Ogoja Local Government.
Hon Ayim was addressing the media on the deplorable condition of the road and the danger it poses to transporters and commuters.
According to Hon Ayim because of the failed portion of the highway by Adagom 11 after the refugee camp all tankers, trailers, heavy trucks and other cars are now passing through Ogoja, Igoli town internal roads a situation she said was threatening the life span of roads that were not constructed to carry such vehicles consistently.
She disclosed that so much damage has not only been done on the fragile internal roads but the Monaiya bridge and soon if there's no timely intervention on both the highway and internal roads transportation through that axis to the northern Nigeria and other locations would be dislocated.
Hon Ayim lamented the huge losses commutes are having and the outrageous expenses vehicle owners have had to bear because of the terrible road conditions and appealed that urgent steps be taken to address the problem.
According to her if government has to wait until the rain stops to intervene then business and traveling along that route would have to hold on for a long time.
Meanwhile transporters are counting their losses as so much of their commodities perishable and non perishable have been affected.
Residents of Ogoja town have said they may have to resort to self help to stop those heavy trucks from using the internal roads to safe the only roads they waited for so many years for.
Beagle News spoke with some residents along the highway who blamed government for neglecting the road for several years and stated that the repairs on that road was long overdue.
Matters are worse now with the heavy rains and it's regrettable that the many days on the road leading to losses could have been avoided if government was proactive and responsive, a passerby, Justine Ogar stated.
Beagle news was unable to contact the relavant Federal Government agencies for their comments as phone calls didn't go through.
