SPORTS: Calabar South Needs A Mini Stadium-Sports Philanthropist
A sports philanthropist in Cross River, Sunny Muffat has called on the state government to build a mini stadium in Calabar South to provide a conducive environment for budding athletes to express their talents.
Muffat who made the during interaction with sports journalists in Calabar stressed that such a facility is needed to assist in grooming budding talents that abound in Calabar South to enable them realize their full potentials in sports.
According to him" Calabar South is blessed with great talented boys and girls in search of avenues to express themselves in the sporting arena.
Unluckily for us, we don't have a good standard school field, unlike Calabar Municipality.
"I will appeal to the state government and key political stakeholders to team up and erect a mini stadium in Calabar South.
"It's regrettable that despite the arrays of soccer talents, there is no grassroots facility to groom them to stardom unlike in other locality."
On his reasons for sponsoring the 18th annual Armstandam soccer tournament going on at Mayne Avenue Primary School field, Muffat said he opted to step in to sustain the momentum of the competition given its strategic benefits.
He disclosed that the competition will serve as a breeding ground for future stars while curtailing youth vices attributable to idleness.
A total of 16 teams drawn into four groups are taking part in the competition. Winners would cart home the sum of N150.000 while runners-up will pocket N100.000 while the third-place winner is expected to cart home the sum of N50.000.
