Cross River Among Top States With Mpox Cases in Nigeria, NCDC Reacts

Statistics released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has revealed that Cross River State is amosng the leading with confirmed cases of Mpox.

Mpox formerly known as monkeypox is a zoonotic disease, an animal disease transmitted from animal to humans caused by infection with a virus, known as monkeypox.

People with mpox often get a rash, along with other symptoms and is endemic in several African countries including the tropical rainforests of Central and West Africa. Latest reports from the NCDC shows that a total of 39 confirmed cases with zero deaths were recorded across 33 states across the country including the FCT.

It further revealed that Bayelsa state has the highest number of cases with 16 recorded cases while Cross River state follows behind with 5.

Ogun state has 4 recorded cases, Lagos 4, Ondo 3 and Ebonyi 3 cases. According to the NCDC,

Mpox virus could spread from animal to human and from human to human through direct contact with blood, body fluids or mucus of infected animals which might be through bite or scratch.
