The Senator representing the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State, Sen. Eteng Jonah Williams has visited the popular Ikom Main Market recently gutted by fire for an on-the-spot assessment to ascertain the degree of damage caused by the unfortunate incident.
The federal lawmaker, who expressed sympathy to the traders for the loss of goods worth several millions of Naira to the inferno, however, thanked God that no life was lost in the tragedy.
"I know these are difficult times for the shop owners, which is why I came to visit myself to do the assessment, so we will see how we can support them to mitigate the losses," Senator Williams assured traders of Lagos line and other adjoining parts of the market affected by the fire outbreak.
While calling for caution from shop owners and traders in the market, the Yakurr-born politician further assured that "We will work with the leadership of the market, and relevant state and federal government agencies to put an end to the incessant fire outbreaks in the Ikom market and environs."
Fire outbreaks have become recurring decimals in Ikom - the commercial nerve centre of the state - especially in the Ikom Main Market, a trend business owners and residents describe as "very disturbing."
