SEMA Announces Imminent Flood In Parts Of C'River

The Director General, Cross River State Emergency Management Agency, Chief Mrs Angela Ogeyi Odey has alerted the public of the possibility of flood in some parts of the state.
Chief Odey said in a statement credited to her office and duely signed by herself that information from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the flood is due to increasing climate variability and the resolve by officials of the Cameroon to open the Lagdo Dam in the days ahead due to heavy rainfall.
She listed possible risk areas to include Calabar Municipality, Akpabuyo, Obubra, Bakassi, Ogoja, Biase, Etung, Odukpani, Ikom, Yakurr and Yala.
Accordingly the DG urged residents of the affected areas to be alert and prepared and called on the media, community leaders, traditional institutions, youth organisations and all well meaning individuals to help in circulating the information to people in the vulnerable areas.
She called on the communities to engage the services of Town Criers to circulate this information at the grassroots level.
