Rep Abang Gives Succour To Fire Victims, Vulnerable Constituents, Distributes Relief Materials

Succour has come the way of constituents of Ikom/Boki federal constituency, as the Representative, Hon. Victor Abang, has distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to fire disaster victims and vulnerable persons.

The gesture was to ameliorate the suffering of victims of fire incident as well as cushion the current economic hardship on the people including the handicapped.

Recall that the Ikom Main market which was gutted by fire on April 8, 2024, destroying shops and goods worth several millions of Naira.

Some of items distributed include 500 bags of (10kg) rice, 500 bags of (10kg) beans, 500 bags of (10kg) garri, 50 cartons of vegetable oil, 65 cartons of seasoning, 50 cartons of tomatoes and 33 bags of iodized salt.

Presenting the items, Abang, stated: "Time has come to deliver the political and social deliverables to the people as politics has come and gone."

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his welfarist economic and social policies aimed at improving the lives of the citizenry, in spite of global challenges, and observed, even Ukraine a one time highest exporter of wheat around the world, can no longer do so due largely to the global economic crunch.

The Reps member also commended the Cross River Governor, His Excellency, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, for creating a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for the people as a direct response of his People First Mantra and called on the youths to ignore calls for violent protests across the streets of Ikom/ Boki federal constituency and the Nation at large.

Speaking at the event, member representing Ikom 1 State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Samuel Neji Abang, explained that the relief materials were meant for the sole purpose of cushioning the effect of the fire disaster which affected the Ikom Main Market and admonished them not to sell any of the items while calling on the youths to shun auspicious moves by desperate politicians to partake in any protests across the country, inview of the losses incurred during the last 2020 Endsars protest.

Addressing the beneficiaries, Director General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), represented by the Head of Operations, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, Mrs.Mmandu Aisueni, disclosed that NEMA had to participate in the flag off to directly distribute the relief materials to those affected by the April 2024 fire incident at Ikom and warned traders to always be cautious on the use of electrical appliances to avert a reoccurrence of the ugly incident.

He also commended the organisers for ensuring that materials were not only released but also distributed to the beneficiaries revealing that more of such relief materials will soon arrive in the state after the recent assessment visits to Calabar Municipality and Odukpani local government areas.

On his part, comrade Emmanuel Ekok of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Cross River state chapter representative and some APC Chieftains, Hon.Okpekor and Hon. Asinya Ntan thanked the lawmaker for making meaningful representation and as well keeping to his electioneering campaign promises.

President Ikom Women in Politics, Mrs. Achi Agbor, Women Leader, Lola Adamma Odigha and the Leader of Widows Association, Mrs. Betta Taku James described the event as quite unprecedented and highly commendable while praying God to continuously bless Hon. Victor Abang to do more for the people in the Constituency.

Some Beneficiaries, Emmanuel Nwandifon, - Leader of the People Living with Disabilities (PLWD)Ikom, Women Leader (PLWD) Imelda Ettah, Victoria Victor and Emeka Nwana, thanked Chief Victor Abang for remembering his Constituents during the period of hardship and natural emergencies.
