President Tinubu Sends High-Level Delegation Headed by Akpabio to Pope Francis' Burial

President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a high-powered delegation to attend the burial of Pope Francis in Vatican City on Saturday, 26 April.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio is to lead the five man delegation which include
Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Lady Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu; President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria; Lucius Ugorji, Archbishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah; and Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, Ignatius Kaigama.
The delegation is to formally deliver a letter conveying President Tinubu's condolences on Pope Francis' death to the Acting Head of the Vatican.
Pope Francis who served as the pontifical head of the Roman Catholic Church, died on April 21 2025 Easter Monday, at the age of 88, just a day after appearing for Easter Sunday celebrations at the Vatican.
