PDP Will Participate In C'River LG Polls - SWC

 The Cross River chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will participate in the October 26 Local Government election in the state.

The party noted that the decision was taken following consultation with critical stakeholders of the party across the state and beyond.

This decision is contained in a statement by the chapter Publicity Secretary, Mr Mike Ojisi and made available to newsmen in Calabar on Friday. 

While acknowledging that the prcesses and the poll have been skewed to favour the All Progressives Congress (APC)), state's opposition party however noted that it will challenge the process through legitmate means.

"Following the recent release of timetable for the conduct of the local government elections, in consultation with critical stakeholders of the party still on-going, the State Working Committee of the party has resolved as follows: to participate in the proposed poll.

"To open the process of collection of forms and nominations and to, nevertheless challenge the process which we are apprehensive is totally skewed in favour of the ruling APC government. 

"We urge our members to remain resolute and contest the election with all seriousness, while we follow legitmate processes to address our grievances," it stated.

It will be recalled that the State Independent Electoral Commission had on released time table for the conduct of the council poll on October 26.

The release of the time table followed the amendment of the electoral law by the House of Assembly and subsequently assent by the Governor a fortnight ago.

The law was amended to give room.for the conduct of the poll from.90 to 30 days.
