From Osazuwa Imafidon (Benin City)
The impeached Edo deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, had through his counsel, Andrew Emwanta, had stated that they had petitioned the Chief Judge of the Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, over the alleged despicable role played by the office the State Chief Judge of the state, Andrew Okungbowa, during the impeachment saga.
The counsel disclosed that the CJN is yet to respond to Shaibu's request because there were moves to stay further action even as appeal have come from certain quarters for further action not to be taken against the CJ.
He said: "There have been no response by the CJN to Shaibu's request for formal complaint against the State chief Judge, Andrew Okungbowa.
"But there are moves to stay further action, as appeals have come from certain quarters for further action not to be taken against the Edo CJ.
That's why we are not proceeding for now." Last week, Shaibu had written to the CJN to obtain a complaint form to file a formal petition against the Chief Judge of Edo, Justice Daniel Okungbowa.
Shaibu was impeached on April 8 by the State House of Assembly, following the adoption of the report of a seven-man panel set up by the Chief Judge of the State.
The impeachment panel investigated allegations of misconduct and perjury levelled against the former Deputy Governor by the House.
But, Shaibu, in a letter from the Chambers of B.I. Dakum and Co, dated April 8, 2024, signed by Andrew Emwanta, applied to the CJN who doubles as Chairman of the National Judicial Council, for a leave to obtain a complaint form to file formal petition against the Chief Judge of Edo State.
