The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, has stated that government would open their doors to Primary Health Care (PHC) givers across the 18 local government areas of the state.

Speaking when the Directors of Primary Health Care (PHC) across the 18 local government areas paid a courtesy visit, Odey assured that some of the challenges listed by the Directors would receive Governor’s speedy attention as soon as the document is received.

Hon. Odey assured the directors that quarterly inspections would be carried out to revitalise the sector, especially regarding the improvement of working conditions and making provisions for imprest.

The Deputy Governor promised that his doors will remain open  “so that quarterly we will carry out an inspection to see the ones we have done and the ones we need to do”.

Earlier, the PHC Director for Yala local government, Dr. Mrs. Augustina Okem, listed the challenges of PHC to include staff shortage, old broken down vehicles, dilapidated buildings and inadequate funding.

She commended the Deputy Governor for the role he played to ensure that  PHC got support and counterpart funding for their programmes.

On her part, Mrs Anthonia Owan, the PHC Director of Ikom, said: "The Deputy Governor received us, listened to us and I believe that God will use him to relieve some of the tension we have been passing through".
