NSE Condemns Vandalization Of Transmission Lines

By Hannah Arikpo

The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Calabar Branch has condemned in totality the incessant attacks and destruction of Government property with the recent case on transmission lines in the State by hoodlums.

The Chairman, Dr. Desmond Ewa who frowned at the act, described it as barbaric, repulsive regression, and does not represent the image for which the state is known for.

"Our dear State, Cross River is known for innovations, progress, peace and everything that promotes growth and development. The act of vandalism is strange to what we believe and stand for as a people, it is retrogressive and counterproductive to the development of the State." Ewa stated.

The Chairman  recalled an incident  in October 20, 2020, when  a nationwide protest against the disbanded police unit, Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) was hijacked by hoodlums  led to the wanton destruction of property with Cross River rated as one of the worst hit.

He stated that while Government is trying to recover from the ugly incident using the lean resources accruable to the state to revamp vandalized infrastructures, which would have been used for other development Projects ,some disgruntled elements are busy destroying public property.

Ewa called on those involved in the nefarious acts capable of sabotaging government's efforts towards improving power supply to desist from it and support Government by protecting public property within their locality.

The Chairman who urged members of the public to be security conscious by reporting any suspicious movement to appropriate quarters advised the youths to form Vigilante groups to protect public property.
