Odey, Other Deputy Governors Visit Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor Over Daughter's Death.
On Monday, a delegation of deputy governors from across Nigeria gathered at the Akwa Ibom State Government House in Uyo to offer their condolences to their colleague, Her Excellency, Sen. Dr. Akon Eyakenyi, following the tragic passing of her beloved daughter, Blessing Eyakenyi-Adewumi.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, which included deputy governors from Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, and Rivers States, Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo expressed profound grief over the loss of Blessing Adewumi, describing her death as painful, shocking, and heartbreaking.
He emphasized the significance of the visit, stating, "We are not here to mourn with you but to encourage you and your family to remain strong. We want to remind you that in times like these, we stand with you, just as we celebrated with you during her wedding seven months ago."
In a similar vein, Cross River State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, noted that words often fall short in expressing the depth of sorrow during such moments. He added, "We are not just here as colleagues but as a family. We mourn with you and your family, and we pray that God grants you the grace to find peace amid this grief."
The highlight of the visit was offering prayers for the peaceful repose of Blessing Eyakenyi-Adewumi’s soul and seeking divine comfort for Senator Eyakenyi and her family during this challenging time.
Blessing, who had married her husband, Olumuyiwa Adewumi, on June 22, 2024, reportedly passed away during childbirth in a hospital in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
