Obudu Council Chair Vows Ruthless Crackdown on Transformer Thieves

In what he describes as a clear declaration of war against criminal elements sabotaging Obudu’s development, the Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Hon. (Amb.) Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, has vowed that those behind the recent theft of public infrastructure—particularly electricity transformers—will be hunted down and made to face the full wrath of the law.

The Chairman issued a strongly worded statement following the swift interception and recovery of stolen transformers en route to Vandeikya in Benue State, after he received a distress call and activated the local security network.

“The criminals may have fled for now, but they must understand—Obudu is no longer a haven for vandals,” Undiandeye warned. “We will comb every corner, trace every lead, and smoke them out of whatever hole they’re hiding in. There will be no mercy for those who steal from the people.”

Though the suspect driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped, the stolen transformers were recovered intact. Hon. Undiandeye commended the collaboration with security agencies and promised that the pursuit of justice is only just beginning.

He decried the theft as a direct assault on the people of Obudu, stressing that it would not be treated lightly. “These acts of sabotage are not just thefts—they are crimes against the future of our people. And those responsible must answer for it.”

While calling on residents to remain calm, he urged them to be vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious movements, particularly around public infrastructure. He further stated that his administration is reviewing security protocols around critical assets to ensure such incidents never repeat.

“To those plotting the next heist: know this—Obudu is watching, and justice will find you,” he warned with steely resolve.

With the Chairman’s statement ringing loud, Obudu has sent a chilling message to all criminal networks: public assets are no longer up for looting. The tide has turned—and the hunt is on.
