NUJ Chairman Hails Members Appointed Chief Press Secretaries, Sues For Professionalism in Media Related Appointments

The Cross River state council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has congratulated its members who have been appointed Chief Press Secretary for different local government councils.

In a congratulatory message signed by the state chairman Comrade Archibong Bassey, the council described the appointments as well deserved considering the calibre and quality of the journalist so appointed.

The message read in parts; "NUJ appreciates chairmen of councils who have chosen to appoint professionals to handle their media relations. They are assured of our support in projecting their various council reports."

"In all things, professionalism is key and we must not hold the erroneous belief that anybody can handle media matters. The difference will be seen in due course, as the works of the professionals will manifest for the good of their councils."

She however enjoined the national body of NUJ to take steps in making it mandatory that all media related appointees must be members of the NUJ.

The chairman called on the newly appointed press secretaries to uphold the high moral and professional standards of the noble profession which paved the way for their appointment while assuring them of the state councils and other colleagues support in the discharge of their duties.

Those appointed into various local government councils  as chief press secretary include the former General Manager of Cross River Newspaper Corporation, Emma Unah (CPS Yala); Editor of Weekend Chronicle and Financial Secretary of Council, Ekong Okpa (CPS Obubra); Oqua Etim of Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CPS Calabar Municipality); Eyo Eyo of Glimmer Newspaper (CPS Bakassi); Arit Ndem of NTA (CPS Odukpani); Nkese Eneyo of CRBC (CPS Calabar South) and
Daniel Agbor of Primetime news (CPS Akamkpa).
