NEWS ANALYSIS: THE BEAGLE NEWS at 2; Why We Came Out

Anthony EKPO BASSEY

Two years ago, we launched THE BEAGLE NEWS not just as a newspaper, but as a necessity. At the time, the media landscape around us was cluttered with noise-echoed chambers, biased headlines, and too often, silence where there should have been scrutiny, we emerged to break that silence.

THE BEAGLE NEWS, an acronym that stands for Bold, Ethical, Analytical, Grounded, Local, and Engaged, was not merely a name, it was, and remains, a mission statement. We came out because we believed the community deserves to know itself honestly. We believed that truth, even when uncomfortable, should be accessible to all. And we believed that journalism should serve the public interest, not simply chase clicks.

Over the past two years, our team of dedicated reporters, editors, and contributors has chronicled triumphs and tragedies, held power to account, and given voice to those too often unheard. We have investigated, we have illuminated, and yes sometimes, we have stirred controversies that attracted litigations. But we have always done so with integrity.

Why we came out and why we continue, is rooted in our belief that good journalism builds stronger communities. It bridges gaps. It provokes thought. It educates. It empowers.

At two, we are still young, but we are growing. Our readership has multiplied, our stories have sparked conversations across dinner tables and council chambers alike, and our presence is now firmly woven into the fabric of the region we serve.

We are deeply grateful to our readers, our critics, our supporters, for walking with us. For holding us accountable, challenging us, and cheering us on. Journalism is a collective act. It lives not only in the newsroom, but in the community it reflects.

As we look ahead, we recommit ourselves to the core reasons we came out: to speak truth, to tell your stories, and to always seek light even in the darkest corners.

In all, we remain advertisers delight. If profit in business matters, advertise on our online or print pages.

Here’s to another year of THE BEAGLE NEWS, sniffing out the stories that matter.
