The Cross River office of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has received a total of 70 waste bins meant to be donated to the University of Calabar (UNICAL) and the University of Cross River (UNICROSS).
Receiving the items, which arrived in the state on Sunday, the state NDDC commissioner, Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, said the bins are to be donated to both schools in an effort to complement the state's drive towards effective waste management.
He recalled that the agency had earlier pledged 300 refuse bins to Cross River as part of its commitment to foster environmental sustainability and public health initiatives through effective waste disposal.
Duke revealed that so far, 68 bins have arrived in the state from the interventionist agency since February 2024 and have been distributed to different parts of the state. "Another 70 have just arrived, making it a total of 138 bins so far donated to the state."
"Like I have always said, it is our duty to complement the efforts of the state government in any way we can, and that we have always done," he added.
