Navy seeks support for the educational needs of Ikuru community

The Nigerian Navy has appealed for support of corporate organisations towards meeting the educational needs of their host community, Ikuru, in Andoni Local Government Area of River state.

The Commanding Officer of the Naval Outpost in Ikuru, Commander Adams Kajola, made the appeal during educational/career rhapsody in the community.

Represented by the Executive Officer, Lt.- Cdr. Muhammed Muye, the Commanding Officer, noted that underserved communities in the country need all the help from well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organisations.

He said such a gesture will give residents of these communities a sense of belonging, promote their wellbeing, and provide opportunities for the indigent students.

He emphasised the importance of education in shaping the future of young Nigerians and reiterated the Navy's commitment to supporting educational initiatives in the community.

He urged students to focus on academic excellence, hard work, and legitimate career paths while avoiding crime and unlawful activities.

Kajola said that the event is part of the Nigerian Navy's efforts to strengthen civil-military relations and contribute to youth development.

"The event aimed to enlighten students on career opportunities within the Nigerian Navy, covering topics such as the structure of the Nigerian Armed Forces, roles of the Navy, entry requirements, and career prospects," he stated.

In response, the principal, Mr Sylvester Myono, expressed gratitude for the career talk and commended the Naval Outpost's efforts in fostering a secure and supportive environment for learning.

The event concluded with the distribution of exercise books and educational materials to students, followed by a group photograph.

According to the Ikuru Commanding Officer, no fewer than 100 students benefitted from the rhapsody.
