Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road Construction Takes Off August, Says Umahi

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has disclosed tha the construction of the Cross River state section of the Lagos- Calabar Coastal Road will begin in August, 2024.
The Minister, who made the disclosure at Stakeholders' meeting on the project held in Calabar at the weekend, said construction will begin on the two sections of the road in Cross River state and one section in Akwa Ibom state simultaneously.
“After this stakeholders engagement, we get the design and start the procurement.
“We are very sure that in the month of August construction will start in this state.
“I will not allow construction to start only from Akwa Ibom, but ensure that construction starts in three sections two in Cross River and one in Akwa Ibom.
“The projects are going to have a rail track, we started with the tracks in the thr middle in section two but we have redesigned it to have the tracks by the side”, the minister said.
He solicited for support from stakeholders in the state to ensure the success of the project.
In his remarks, Governor Bassey Otu, represented the deputy governor, Dr. Peter Odey, assured the minister of maximum cooperation to ensure a hitch free execution of the project.
Also speaking, Patrick Bassey, the Surveyor General of the state, called for more sensitisation to ensure no certificate of occupancy is issued on the route of the road.
