Boat Mishap: C'River Speaker Bemoans Death of Victims, Calls For Probe

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, has expressed sadness over the death of three medical students who recently drowned in a boat mishap at the Calabar channel.

Ayambem, who was speaking to Journalists after plenary at the Assembly Complex, called on the State Government to thoroughly investigate the accident and ensure that all those found culpable will face the full wrath of the law.

"I am saddened by the tragic death of the three medical students. I feel for their parents. It is not easy to train a child to that level. It is recklesness on the part of the boat operators. The House will not tolerate such ineffectiveness." He said.

The Speaker expressed disappointment with the operations of boating Company, adding that they should be made to face serious sanctions to serve as a deterrent to others. He emphasized the need to enforce safety regulations at all times.

Earlier during plenary, the House had observed a minute silence in honor of the drowned medical students.
