The Management Committee of Marian Market in Calabar has debunked  media reports alleging  that one of its daily ticketer was involved in the scuffle that led to  the death of a Hausa boy in the market on Wednesday.

In chat with THE BEAGLE NEWS, the Chairman of the committee, Elder Ekpo Edet, described such report as "inciteful, misleading and complete misrepresentation of facts"

According to him,"the unfortunate incident that happened in the market has nothing to do with any of our ticket vendors.

"Our boys were actually the ones that apprehended the suspect while we rushed the deceased to Efcam Clinic behind Total filling station along Marian Road  where he was admitted for prompt medical treatment

"We then notified the DPO of  the State Housing Police Division, who promptly despatched a police team  to pick up the suspect and proceed with the needful.

"From our findings, the deceased and his friend were water vendors who fetches water from the borehole  within the market for sale to traders who depends on water to carry out their daily routine. The wheelbarrow conveying the jerricans of water  collided with the suspect now in police custody who sustained some bruises in the process.

" In the ensuing standoff,   the suspect who was an onlooker at the scene hit the deceased on the back of his neck with a plank for instigating  the brawl between the wheelbarrow and his friend. He collapsed instantly to the ground and become  unconscious.

"He was rushed him  to the clinic but sadly, he died  the following morning. The Police is on top of the matter, " he narrated.

When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of State Housing, Supol  Thompson Saviour, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect is in police custody for interrogation.
