Cross River’s Emergency Healthcare Gets Major Boost as NDDC Donates Ultra-Modern Ambulance

Cross River State has recorded another milestone in its push for accessible and responsive healthcare, as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) donated an ultra-modern ambulance to the state government. The vehicle was formally presented at the General Hospital, Calabar.
Receiving the donation, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, described the intervention as a timely and strategic contribution to the state’s emergency medical response system.
“We sincerely thank His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, for this thoughtful initiative, which aligns perfectly with our collective mission to take quality healthcare to every corner,” Dr. Ayuk said.
He revealed that the ambulance, fully equipped with advanced life-saving technology, will be deployed in the Calabar area to support critical emergency services including obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, and accident response. The vehicle, he emphasized, will strictly be used to preserve life, not for funeral logistics.
“Ambulance services are for saving lives, not transporting corpses. We will not tolerate any abuse of this vital asset for weekend burial errands,” the Commissioner warned.
He praised the strong coordination between the state and its NDDC representative, Right Hon. Rodrick, noting that proactive communication helped ensure the timely delivery of the ambulance and other health interventions.
“This gesture by the NDDC strongly reinforces Governor Bassey Otu’s ‘People First’ agenda, which prioritizes health access for the poor, the vulnerable, and underserved communities,” Dr. Ayuk concluded.
As Cross River continues to leverage partnerships and innovation, the state is steadily positioning itself as a benchmark for subnational healthcare transformation in Nigeria.
