Cross River Strengthens TB Control with Motorcycle Distribution, Integrated Care Model

In a significant move to enhance tuberculosis (TB) control efforts, the Cross River State Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to integrating TB and HIV care, adopting a One-Stop-Shop model that ensures patients receive comprehensive treatment from a single team at one location during a single visit.

This directive was issued by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, during the commissioning of 36 motorcycles for TB Supervisors and Assistants across the state’s 18 local government areas.

Dr. Ayuk emphasized that eliminating TB remains a top public health priority, requiring collective action from all stakeholders. He commended the Global Fund and the Federal Ministry of Health for their critical support in donating the motorcycles, which will improve disease surveillance, diagnostics, and treatment across Cross River.

Mrs. Ajom Ikongha, the State Program Manager for TB and Leprosy Control (TBL), underscored the importance of accessibility in the fight against TB, particularly in rural and underserved areas. She described the donation as a game-changer, significantly enhancing healthcare workers’ mobility and enabling them to deliver essential TB services to remote communities.

Mrs. Ikongha further reaffirmed her team’s commitment to fully implementing the integrated care approach, ensuring improved disease surveillance, management, and patient outcomes.

The event was attended by senior health officials, including: Dr. Sunday Obeten, Director of Laboratory Services; Mrs. Agnes Ita, Director of Nursing Science; Mr. Ofem Inyang, Director of Finance and Supplies; and Mr. Williams Agba, Director of Administration.

Other dignitaries and public health experts also participated, highlighting the state government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and achieving a TB-free Cross River.

With these strategic interventions, the Cross River State Government is not only enhancing TB control efforts but also reinforcing its healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that every resident—regardless of location—has access to quality, life-saving medical care.
