C'River: New Sports Director Assumes Duty, Vows To Restore Lost Glory

The new Director of Sports in the Cross River Sports Commission, Coach Moses Ita has pledged to work assiduously with the administration of Governor Bassey Otu with the view of restoring the eroded glory of sports as witnessed in recent years.
Coach Ita who stated this in his maiden meeting with staff of the Commission at the U.J. Esuene Stadium upon assumption of office, said he intends to blend his wealth of experience with trending dynamics in the administration of sports to fast-track deliberate efforts needed to enable the state to regain its pride of place at the national arena.
He commended the staff for their zeal, enthusiasm, and commitment to keep the system afloat despite trying times, assuring them of a conducive working atmosphere to guarantee optimum service delivery required for the attainment of set goals.
The new Director of Sports expressed appreciation to his predecessor, Mr Omara CocoBassey for the enduring legacy left behind and pledged to improve on his imprint to transform the sport sector in Cross River to regain its lost pride.
Staff who spoke congratulated the Director on his elevation and promised to give their best to facilitate a successful tenure.
Findings by The Beagle Sports indicate that the sports sector has suffered collateral damage in recent years owing to dwindling funding and a lack of passion for sports by the immediate past government in the state.
Meanwhile, ahead of the National Youths Games billed for Delta next month, the Director of Sports, Coach Moses Ita has inaugurated a Local Organising Committee for the South-South Zonal elimination Competition for team sports billed to flag off this weekend in Calabar.
The Zonal elimination contest is meant to produce qualifiers from team sports who will represent the South-South geopolitical zone at the forthcoming National Youths Games slated for Delta from September 7 - 17 this year.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director charged members of the committee to ensure a hitch-free event while applying high ethical standards to guarantee that only the best athletes capable of doing the state proud at the sports fiesta are selected for Cross River.
He implored them to accord priority attention to the assignment given the high expectations from the people and government of the state for an optimum performance from its contingent.
Speaking, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr Greg Abang, expressed appreciation for the privilege to serve assuring that they will do their best in assembling a good team that will do the state proud.
Other members of the team are Coach Paul Atila, Oqua Etim, Coach Modey Uguge, Coach Frank Ejishie, Roselyn Egbe and Coach Akeem Salami.
Others are Jimmy Okotu, Rev. Ayo Egba, Prof Ogunjimi Lucas, Victoria Ugobo and Talabi Oke.
