C'RIVER: NDDC Partners NGO To Celebrate Women's Day With Focus on Health, Empowerment, And Equality

The Adanne Eneka Empowerment Initiative in conjunction with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on Tuesday celebrated the 2024 International Women's Day in Calabar.

The one day event which was meant to celebrate women focused on women’s health and empowerment. In an address, the Director of the Adanne Eneka foundation Dr Patricia Ojekwe highlighted the importance of women empowerment and the role of the organization in driving positive change in the among the female gender.

Dr Ojekwe pointed out the essence of the International Women’s Day celebration which she says centers on women empowerment, self realization and gender equality while thanking the state NDDC Commissioner Hon. Orok Duke for the support and assistant in mobilising the women.

Chief Dr. Daniel Ajunwa, a director at the Cross River State NDDC who represented the state NDDC Representative Rt. Honourable Orok Duke in a remark applauded the organizers and the participating women while urging the participants them to utilize and apply the information gathered from the presentations.

He said NDDC as an interventionist agency prioritizes women empowerment which is evident in it's empowerment programmes carried out.

A keynote speaker at the event Dr. Effioanwan Archibong, a physician in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital in her presentation provided an in-depth look at the various health challenges faced by women, particularly in the Niger Delta region.

She addressed several critical issues, including the life expectancy of women in West Africa, the prevalence of heart conditions, and the importance of early detection and treatment of cancers, adding that many health conditions remain undiagnosed in women, leading to preventable complications and even death.

Attendees participated in health checks conducted by medical personnel, who measured blood pressure, glucose levels, pulse, heart rate, and oxygen levels. 

This service was a vital addition, offering immediate health insights to the women present.
