In a bid to better the working condition and enhance productivity of third tier administration in Cross River, the Governor Bassey Otu-led administration has provided internet services to Local Government Councils of the State.
The Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Felix Idem, brought this to light, Tuesday, at a meeting with heads of local government administrations (HOLGAs) in the state, held at the Ministry's Conference room in Calabar.
Chief Idem said the provision of internet service in council headquarters became imperative as it would bridge communication gap, with Calabar South, Odukpani, Yakurr, Ogoja and Ikom Local government councils the first batch of beneficiaries of the initiative.
The Commissioner advised that with the availability of internet service local government heads must always keep tabs with enlarged platform to be abreast with current development that may be of interest.
The Commissioner who chaired the meeting, restated the resolve of Governor Bassey Otu-led administration's commitment to grassroots development, while calling on all hands to be on deck to ensure that the dream of the Governor is brought to reality.
In another development, the local government council boss promised to reposition the Ministry of Local Government Affairs by installing solar-powered energy source to serve as alternative to the power generating machine which has become too exorbitant to maintain given the prevailing high cost of petroleum products.
Continuing, he said that with the solar system, there will be steady power supply and the office environment will be more conducive for Staff to carry out their duties effectively.
The Commissioner also charged heads of Councils to provide Solar energy in their councils to make the environment more conducive for council staff.
Responding, the Chairman of HOLGAs, Mr Ekpeyong Esuabana, thanked the Commissioner for his developmental strides and assured of his colleagues' readiness to key into the people-centred policies of the present administration to improve the local government councils.
