C'River Assembly Committee Queries ITM Projects

The House Committee on Education has queried the ongoing projects at the Institute of Technology and Management (ITM), Ugep,Yakurr Local Government Area.
The Committee is headed by the Chairman on Education, Hon. Bassey Bassey Member Representing Akpabuyo State Constituency who
while visiting the institution to inspect the ongoing projects in the school expressed dissatisfaction with the work done so far.
The Lawmaker said the work does not equate the amount budgeted and released by Ted Fund for the projects and demanded to see the contractors handling the projects.
Bassey asked the Rector, Mr Jeffrey Thomson to furnish the committee with relevant documents on the projects and asked that the contractors come with bill of quantity for the different projects.
Also, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Rita Ayim, Member Representing Ogoja State Constituency and Hon. Martins Achadu Member Representing Yala 11 State Constituency who's a member of the committee, said the essence of the visit is to know the challenges facing the school and to see how to address them.
They added that the government of Prince Otu is poised to lift Cross River State in all areas including the educational sector.
They assured the Rector that all challenges are well noted and that the committee will review the visit , look at the challenges critically with a view to advising the executive appropriately.
Mr. Thomson thanked the Committee for the visit and briefed them on the challenges the school is facing which include accreditation of the HND courses, completion of the signature project, funding and changing of the name of the school to Cross River State Polytechnic.
Jeffrey said the essence of the name change is to open up avenues for more courses, adding that when this is done it would attract more students into the school.
The Rector told the Committee that the school is fully prepared and well equipped to offer HND certificates and use the opportunity to call on government to accredit the school for HND courses.
He said the school is one of the best in this part of the country having been established to meet the standard of the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, the school has so far graduated about nine thousand students since it's inception.
High point of the visit was inspection of projects in the school which include; the signature projects, the twin engineering block and the electrical and electronic block, as well as yet to be installed equipments in some of the buildings.
