Commercial Drivers Raise The Alarm Over Multiple Ticketing, Lack of Transparency

By Ben GBOR

Commercial drivers in Calabar metropolis have  raised the alarm over what it calls unjust ticketing practices.

Two drivers, who wished to remain anonymous, shared their grievances, shedding light on the challenges they encounter in the transportation sector.

Both drivers expressed frustration over the frequent fines associated with tickets issued by motor park authorities.

One of drivers stated that "these fines are draining us financially, leaving us with little to sustain ourselves."

The other driver echoed this sentiment, saying, "the hefty penalties eat into our already meager earnings, making it difficult to make ends meet."

Furthermore, the drivers lamented the lack of transparency and accountability in the ticketing process.

Another driver, who simply gave his name as Agbor, said:  "There's a significant difference between the fines we are compelled to pay and the quality of services provided in return.

"We need more clarity in how tickets are issued and how the revenue generated from fines is utilized."

This outcry from commercial drivers highlights a broader issue within the transportation sector in Calabar.

It raises concerns regarding the fairness and effectiveness of regulatory measures imposed on drivers, as well as the necessity for enhanced dialogue between drivers and authorities.

In response to these grievances, local authorities are urged to engage with stakeholders to address the underlying causes of dissatisfaction and collaborate on ways to find solutions that foster transparency, accountability, and fairness in the ticketing process.
