Church To Assist Unical Digitalize Registry, Budget

The plan by the University of Calabar to digitalize it's registry and budget has received a boost from the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints.

Kelechi Ohabughiro, Field Manager, Family Search said during a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi in her office recently said the support from the Church would bring about proper record keeping, preservation and enhanced service delivery.

Ohabughiro said with timely approval from the Vice Chancellor by providing a space for capturing, provision of electricity and security, the Church was ready to move in with trained staff and equipment to commence work.

Earlier in her address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof.Obi listed critical areas of need to include digitalization of the registry and budget, building of a fire station, improvement of the medical center and academic block, construction of a multi purpose hall among other needs and appealed to the Church to assist in any of these projects where possible.

She commended the Church for strides recorded in charity work , philanthropy and stated that the church environment was very clean and impressive.

Speaking earlier, Area Seventy, Elder Victor Bassey congratulated Prof. Obi on her emergence as Vice Chancellor and recalled days of little beginning when the Institute of Religion, Calabar was to be sited inside the School premises.

Elder Bassey informed Prof. Obi that the Church was global and has heavy presence in Cross River with a total global membership of over 17 million and over 200,000 nationally with a congregation of over 30, 000 in 160 countries.

Elder Bassey who led the team on the visit stated that the Church has a rubost educational programme for youths and adults with a current enrollment figure of 400,000 in 170 countries.

He disclosed that the church manuals and scriptures were being translated into 110 languages today.

The visiting team include Ikpe Nkanang, Coordinating Council Director, Kelechi Ohabughiro, Country Family Search Director, Christian Onovughe, Welfare and Self Reliance Manager, Uyo Coordinating Council and Charles Igolo, Assistant director of Communication, Africa West Area.
