Yala Community Solicits For NSCDC Outpost
... To Curb Communal Clashes, Maintain Security
By Ogbu Kosy
The chairman of Ijiraga community, South Ukelle, Amb. Emmanuel Asegem, has called on the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) to situate an outpost in the border community to curb communal clashes and enhance the security of lives and property.
Asegem, who made the request at a courtesy call on the State Commandant of NSCDC in Calabar, said the call for the outpost was "predicated upon the fact that Ijiraga community was bounded by Izzi, Ebonyi state at one end, and Igede of Benue state at the other, which makes the community open to avoidable communal skirmishes."
"Posting your men here will enhance the maintenance of law and order as it will deter trouble makers from perpetrating acts of violence and other anti-social behaviours. The overall effect of this intervention will foster development and peaceful coexistence among the people," Asegem said.
Asegem, who is also the chairman, Anti-Deforestation in the northern senatorial district, assured that should his request be granted, the Ijiraga Community, "will cooperate with NSCDC officers to make their job in the area an easy one and also build a befitting outpost with necessary facilities in place within one month.
Responding, Cross River State Commandant of the NSCDC, Samuel Fadeyi, said the community's request was well received, assuring that a team would be set up to do an assessment, after which approval will follow immediately.
